Iran Refitting F-14s with Modernized Air-to-Air Missiles
AIM-23B Fakkur to Replace Aging AIM-7E-2 Sparrows
Upgraded Missile System Enhances F-14's Capabilities
Iran's fleet of F-14A Tomcat fighter jets is undergoing a significant upgrade, with the installation of the modernized AIM-23B Fakkur air-to-air missiles. These missiles will replace the aging and unreliable AIM-7E-2 Sparrows, providing the F-14s with enhanced combat capabilities.
The MIM-23 Hawk, which serves as the basis for the AIM-23B, has undergone extensive modernization since its initial introduction. The MIM-23B variant has incorporated advanced technologies, including improved guidance systems and extended range.
Iran's engineers have developed the AIM-23C as an air-to-air version of the MIM-23B Hawk. This modification has allowed the F-14s to utilize these missiles effectively in air-to-air combat.
